Welcome to Discopia, a mesmerising dance theatre production, masterfully intertwining ecological unraveling and the ascent of AI. Witness the delicate dance between hope and despair, as the threads of the past unravel, inviting us to ponder the potential of a transformed future. Teetering on the edge of the uncanny and steeped in surrealism, the audience is pulled into a hallucinatory tapestry of the past, present and future. Equal parts beautiful, humorous and horrifying, Excessive Human Collective joins the collaborative forces of renowned chamber group Larisa Trio, and rising composer Devon Bonelli to bring you this unforgettable sensory experience.

Excessive Human Collective is a dance theatre company under the artistic direction of Imogen Reeve. Imogen uses an interdisciplinary approach to create genre defying, dance performance work and her pieces have been shown across the UK. Imogen’s work is confronting, complex, humorous and highly physical, she uses her artistic practice to imagine new futures and to make sense of the world around her.
Imogen Reeve is a a choreographer and interdisciplinary artist. Known for her work with the Glitterbomb Dancers as well as Back to the Fuchsia with the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, previous work by Excessive Human Collective has been described as “original and thought provoking” and “formidable, focussed, exciting, and beautifully expressed” (The Culture Vulture).
The Larisa Piano Trio are an award-winning chamber group performing regularly across the UK and internationally. Formed in 2016 at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, all three members have since moved to London where they are now based. They have had many competitive successes as holders of the prestigious St James's Prize, the Christopher Rowland Chamber Music Ensemble of the Year Award and the Weil Prize amongst others. They were recently invited to take part in residencies in the Netherlands and Italy as part of the Orlando and Residart festivals respectively and were subsequently invited back the following year for the '22 season. The trio has appeared at renowned festivals such as the Leeds International Chamber Festival, Festival dei Giovani musicisti europei di Mondovì, RNCM Chamber Music Festival and Lake Summer Music, and performed in venues including Wigmore Hall, Teatro Pergolesi in Jesi, Italy, Buxton Pavilion and St James's Piccadilly.
Devon Bonelli (they/them) is a composer and researcher, whose research involves using a practice- based approach to interrogate socio-political structures with his music. Their research focuses primarily on the thinker Gilles Deleuze and how his modes of differentiation, structure, and philosophy of immanence can influence a musical composition. Devon completed their MMus in Composition and Musicology at the RNCM in 2020 and their BA in Music and Philosophy at the University of Nottingham in 2019.

The runtime of all events at CLAY are an estimation.
We can't give an exact runtime for the majority if our events as often they are experimental in nature.
Work in our Programme can be anywhere from 40 - 90mins unless stated otherwise.
Additionally performances are relaxed, meaning you can leave the performance space at anytime if needed.

This is event is wheelchair accessible. We have done what we can to make the space accessible by including a wheelchair friendly portaloo on the floor of the event space. We also have 2 gender-neutral toilets that are down a flight of stairs that is 12 steps. Unfortunately, there is no lift in our building. The rest of the building is on one floor.
